Building Code of Australia Compliance

The Building Code of Australia (BCA) is a uniform set of technical provisions for the design and construction of buildings and other structures throughout Australia. The BCA is produced and maintained by the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB), and given legal effect through the Building Act 1975.

The BCA provides specific detail on how to ensure compliance with it, and includes a number of Australian Standards.

Our licensed electricians at Buckby Electrical are kept fully up-to-date with the BCA, as well as any changes that occur each year to ensure any work done fully complies with the code.

General electrical layout

Buckby Electrical works from the outset to ensure that the electrical layout at your home or business premises meets all your requirements, from the amount of electricity needed, power point numbers and placement, internal and external lighting and more.

Emergency evacuation and lighting

An emergency light is a battery-backed lighting device that turns on automatically when a building experiences a power outage for any reason, whether a general power failure or fire. Exit signs are located at the closest emergency exit in case of fire or any other emergency.

The National Construction Code of Australia requires all commercial buildings to be fitted with an approved emergency evacuation lighting system. All exit and emergency lighting must be regularly tested to ensure that it will operate correctly in the event of an emergency. Buckby Electrical tests all emergency evacuation lighting systems according to AS 2293.1 and AS 2293.2, and we recommend testing every six months.
